06 Jan Scam Alert: ‘Locked’ First Data Account
First Data security teams reported receiving calls from merchants questioning the validity of automated calls from First Data stating their merchant account has been locked. The automated call asks for a Merchant ID and Terminal ID to unlock the account. Incident Management further investigated and determined that this is NOT a First Data automated call but a potential phishing scam.
If you receive an automated call of this nature, please hang up and report the incident to your merchant services provider.
